Kaji once stopped working on this picture and gave me the unfinished lineart as a gift. I found it in my art folder... I felt the urge to finish it and so I did within about 8 hours. Actually it's fanart since both characters are from Kyoht. Unfortunately I hadn't any references for those characters and got to know that after I finished the picture so the colors don't match. The lineart is done by Kaji (2003), the coloring is done by me (2007).

Jan. 2005 This was a commission piece, the image is painted on a 12" octagon-shaped deer hide drum. The colors and painting are much softer and more vibrant in reality. Heron is a symbol of patience and wisdom. Heron people are generally good orators and leaders, powerful speakers and good listeners. Heron medicine teaches people that good things are worth waiting for, when to speak and when to listen.

Apparently if I have ATC-sized cards marked out on scrap board, I draw on them when I get bored of the computer. I must remember this. This is the rare and elusive Catlike Owlmonkey. They are probably rare because they are too stupid to procreate intentionally and it only happens by accident. Wrap your brain around that one. This was mostly an exercise in greys- There are probaby only 9-10 markers used here that -aren't- grey, though if I said four, you'd probably believe that, too. But there are TWO bluegreens, two yellows in the eyes, and about 5-6 different browns. But it's MOSTLY greys. Maybe only one or two cool greys, a couple neutral greys, a few toner greys, and a couple warm greys. Hah.

"The Night Watch" depicts a winged white lion lit by the stars and the milky way. There are jewels worked into his mane and beautiful blue jewels set into his face to match his wise, knowing eyes. Stars bloom in the sky behind him. He watches you for a moment before he will ghost away in the starlight. ACEO, Mostly Marker with some colored pencil and ink, blue interference paint that doesn't show up at all in the scan. and glitter pens. Shiney!
